Police in Denver Colorado now believe the shooting outside a Nas, Schoolboy Q and Flying Lotus concert at the Red Rocks amphitheatre was targeted at Schoolboy Q. Three people inside the rapper’s SUV were shot and injured, Q himself escaped unharmed, being very briefly detained (but much photographed) as a suspect of the shooting.
With reports of the incident breaking online last Friday, any speculation that Q and his entourage were the specific victims of the attack sent fans and commentators into a frenzy, but were largely brushed off by police.
A recent statement made by Jacki Kelly, a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, signals a change of stance, confirming initial suspicions:
“This is not just a coincidence. We think there is probably more to it than that … It does seem to be more targeted than random.”
With no serious injuries sustained and a suspect yet to be arrested, Q hasn’t wasted any time dwelling on the episode, posting a quick tweet assuring fans there was no need to worry about his condition, before promoting forthcoming shows in Iceland and New York.
